Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast cancer is a type of cancer that originates in the cells of the breast tissue. It is one of the most common types of cancer among women, although it can also occur in men. Breast cancer typically starts in the breast’s milk ducts (ductal carcinoma) or milk-producing glands (lobular carcinoma). Over time, if not treated, it can spread to other parts of the body.

Symptoms

Common symptoms of breast cancer include:
• A lump or thickening in the breast or underarm,
• Changes in the size, shape, or appearance of the breast,
• Unexplained pain in the breast or nipple,
• Nipple discharge other than breast milk,
• Skin changes on the breast (such as redness, dimpling, or puckering).

Diagnosis

Breast cancer can be diagnosed through various methods, including
• Mammograms (X-ray of the breast),
• Ultrasound,
• MRI
• Biopsy (removal and examination of a small piece of tissue).
• Blood Markers: This includes CA 15-3 and CA 27.29.
